The Challenge
The customer needs to pre-print carrier paper for specimen cards with barcode and serial numbers. This paper carrier material must be printed from roll-to-roll. After the carrier material is printed, specialized collection media is inlaid and affixed to the paper carrier.

The customer is a global company with approximately 115 locations worldwide. The company supports its customers in the areas of laboratory analysis and workflow management. Among other things, the company produces serialized sample cards for newborn screening.
The Challenge
The customer needs to pre-print carrier paper for specimen cards with barcode and serial numbers. This paper carrier material must be printed from roll-to-roll. After the carrier material is printed, specialized collection media (Ahlstrom grade 226 filter paper) is inlaid and affixed to the paper carrier and the non-variable part of the test card is printed.
Since the printed carrier material is then loaded with the sample material in a further processing device, the pre-print must not mechanically deform the material. This is the only way to ensure smooth further processing.
The Solution
Cost effective and reliable printing of newborn specimen cards. The Microplex SOLID 85E/F90 HD is used to pre-print rolls with instructions and identification information such as serialization and barcode. The „cold“ fixation using a flash lamp ensures that the carrier materials are not deformed after printing. This ensures error-free processing during the subsequent post-processing. The roll is then loaded onto a printing press to have the special filter paper inlaid, making proper documentation of these cards a breeze.
